Hey wow, another British band that plays some kind of danceable indierock or whatever. Sounds boring, I know, but Written From Negative are different maybe that’s because they come from a d.i.y. hc/punk background. Also their songwriting is much less straight and linear than that of let’s say Franz Ferdinand or so. There are no or little driving guitar riffs but two freaked out leadguitars pawing each other and the production is not really disco either. This stuff mainly works through a very rhythmic rhythm section and the the two singers who often alternate. After all this is record to dance to. It also got a new yorkish no wave touch…
We did a show with them at the Rote Flora in Hamburg. So I also got to know them personally a little and we talked about music and d.i.y. and all the stuff people who set up shows talk about to people in touring bands and yes, these are nice guys worth your attention. Especially track one called “hidden” is a hit!
ps: Did you know that the band’s hometown Sunderland until recently was the biggest city in Europe without a cinema? Sometimes you can really learn interesting things out of band infos…
