Somehow it makes me sad to witness how slowly but surely the ‘real screamo’ gets adapted by all the ‘fake emo’ kids like to see bands like Raein or Saetia in the very myspace profiles where young people with dyed black hair got photographs of themselves taken from extreme angles to hide their imperfection (emo is about perfection you know…) and where that music player plays shit like Thrice or The Used…
But of course there is never just black and white. On the other hand this also means that bands like The Mock Heroic from the UK get a little more attention. Having seen Pg 99 in Hamburg, a city of nearly two million people, in front of less than twenty kids was a bad experience. They would have deserved so much better. And they broke up after that… Great band killed by Hamburg kids ignorance?!?
But let’s get back to this one. Great jazzy, freaky screamo like between recent Italian stuff and the fabulous Off Minor. No singalongs here but intense screamo violence with some really fast parts, some laid back catchy phrases and these special grooves that only those weird freaks in this style of music may produce. And once again this record and the releasing label Nimbus Module show the very special thing about this kind of music: the great care that is taken of a unique packaging that makes you literally feel the love it’s done with. This one comes along in cut-in-a-half package brown envelopes with a beautiful red print on it and a typewriter lyrics sheet. Good one! All friends of contemporary screamo check it out!
