Tribute To Nothing
Tribute To Nothing
how many times did we live - lp/cd
destiny
lockjaw
One of the biggest and best surprises of the past months for me was seing Tribute to Nothing live. I had already checked the promo cd before but it couldn’t really reach me. Then when the band entered the stage of the Logo they kicked so much ass from the first moment on that I was smashed. In my head I had a picture of something between My Chemical Romance and new rock bullshit but what I got couldn’t be farther from that.

This band sounds so much like No Idea, like all the drunken emotional punk shit that I cherish so deeply yet with a very unique personal note. The drummer with his beard and the Yes shirt looked so amazingly dwarfish and the two siblings on bass and guitar were simply exploding on stage. Whirling their instruments around, screaming and sweating that it was a real pleasure watching them. The bassist even managed to make some move that manoeuvred his bass at first against the low roof and then got it crashing on the floor. And what did that guy do? He simply picked it up and joined in again. This is the passion and the power I want to see from a hc/punk band. Everyone who is no die hard fan of Boysetsfire (the official main attraction of the night) must admit that they were totally torn up by their “support”!

Now that I listen to the record again and again it keeps reminding me on that brilliant live show and I like it. It is not quite as brilliant but it is really good and the indierockish two-lead-guitar-parts are so great. This is better than many, many other bands who try to do quite the same thing. Okay, maybe this record is not exactly a must have but the band’s live shows are for sure. What a fine coincidence that they are back on the road in our latitudes about right now…  [jan]
