The Trust zine is something like a love-it-or-hate-it thing. I don’t know anyone who thinks that it is quite okay. Most people think that it sucks completely and I can understand their point of view. The Trust is often a real layout disaster with coarse-grained photos, no index and an altogether retro appearance plus they often speak very negative about things other people cherish a lot.
They are like the black sheep in the german fanzine herd and friends can testify that I myself have often spoken negatively about it but I must confess that I was a narrow minded fool. The point about the Trust is simply that they are different. While the Ox has become more like a catalogue for all major hc/punk/etc releases that have just been released the Trust is always covering something or some band that is totally unhip at that very point of time. The big difference is that the Trust unlike most of their colleagues are still practicing outgoing journalism and don’t let any promo schmock talk them into doing a story about whatever artist they want to sell. Finally I came down to really appreciate that. Maximum respect!
So this issue comes up with some brilliant interviews with some people behind the fanzines GLW/DRK, HeartattaCk and Razorcake that are really interesting. There is a good feature about Pansy Division (hey, I always forgot about that great band!) and the indigenous Navajo punk band Blackfire that I had never heard of before which is exactly the thing about the Trust: You can actually discover stuff that you don’t know everything about from the Green Hell mailorder catalogue. Finally there is also an interview with pro Palestine outcasts Propagandhi that also well done and gives some interesting background information e.g. about what that song “ska sucks” was about originally and why the band hates it pretty much…
So it seems like I made my peace with this zine and please, dear Trusties, stay like you are! BUT you should really apologize to Zeitstrafe Renke for having written in the reviews that the Lt. Mosh record came out on Nix Gut. This is really a bad, bad insult and I hope this was only a layout mistake or something!
